Money & Taxes
As Chair of Markham’s Budget Committee through 2021, Amanda led the development of a $533 million municipal budget, delivering balanced budgets while keeping property taxes among the lowest in the GTA. During her tenure, Markham achieved the 2nd-lowest tax rate in the GTA — fiscal discipline that continues today, with Markham now having the lowest tax rate in the GTA.
Amanda supports smart economic policies that attract investment, create local jobs, and strengthen Markham’s position as a hub for commerce and opportunity.
Amanda has worked to lower energy distribution costs and drive year-over-year savings for Markham residents and business.
Safety
Partnering with York Regional Police and Markham Fire, Amanda has supported crime and fire prevention presentations and introduced Neighbourhood Watch programs to residents.
Your voices were heard. I championed the Centreville Flexible Sign program pilot with 8 schools and subsequently expanded the program to 24 schools across Markham to keep our children safe.
Amanda has delivered numerous traffic lights, stop signs, school zone signage, multi-use pathways, and speed radar displays to improve safety, ease congestion, and encourage safer driving.
Parks & Places
To help families enjoy recreational activities, Amanda prioritized the design and delivery of 17 new community parks in Ward 6, with safe and inclusive play spaces for every family.
Amanda has invested in the spaces that bring our community together – from recreation centres to accessible community hubs – ensuring residents have the facilities they need to learn, connect, and thrive.

Amanda supports local school and post-secondary partnerships—like our proud partnership with York University’s Yang Langing School of Nursing.
Partnering with the York Regional Police and Markham Fire Department, I have hosted several crime and fire prevention presentations and I’ve introduced NeighbourhoodWatch programs to residents.

We have installed numerous traffic lights, stop signs and other items in Markham to improve safety. This includes signage for school speed zones, speed reduction, multi-use pathways, and speed radar display boards to remind drivers to slow down and stay within speed limits.
